I know that parents and relatives mean well when they offer their opinions on a home. They are worried that their kids are naive about the buying process. But, actually, I find that many times the parents are the ones who are naive with regard to what a given amount can buy today. They think an extra special deal is just around the corner; however, their kids understand that is not realistic because they have already seen all the "special deals" for the last six months. And, they found their home of choice to be the best deal for them. Parents frequently don't realize that their kids have seen 50 homes and have a sense of context. That's where the kids need to make sure their parents are in the loop as Theresa explains. Her cries of "the bubble is bursting" caused many a buyer to hold off from buying and thus, had a self fulfilling prophecy. What are her qualifications to be such a maven on real estate? The basic jist is that an association can not create "separate classes of ownership" (ie - one set of rules, regs & fees for resident owners and a different set for investment owners).

However, if you association charges a deposit for ALL owners regardless of status, they might be able to get away with it.

I'd question your board. If they insist, you should suggest to them that before they try to enforce it, they should run it past the association's attorney in order to save themselves some expensive problems.Stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11174878904478246077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7155324159934106316.post-374393278060707872008-02-13T16:01:00.000-06:002008-02-13T16:01:00.000-06:00Hi,Can a condo association require a separate secu...Hi,

Can a condo association require a separate security deposit for renters? My building has six units. In our house rules, it states that only one condo at a time can be rented out. It also states that a security deposit equal to one month's rent must be given to the condo association. Is this legal? I doubt that I am going to get any renter to give me an amount equal to two months rent (one for me, one for the association.)
